The Two Designs

Olympia

The Olympia TV Bed is the cleaner of the two — a tall, panelled headboard with straight lines and quiet detailing. It suits a modern master bedroom and doesn’t fight with the rest of the furniture.

Regency

The Regency TV Bed is the grander option, with deeper buttoning and a more traditional profile. If you’ve got the ceiling height and a large room, it’s the one that anchors the space.

Both are available in plush velvet, crushed velvet, chenille and a linen-look weave, in shades from oyster and silver through to steel grey, navy, charcoal and black. Velvet reads richer under warm bedroom lighting, which is usually what you want here.

How a TV Bed Actually Works

Worth understanding before you buy, because it’s not obvious from a photograph.

Your television mounts onto a bracket inside the footboard, on a lift mechanism operated by remote. When it’s down, the screen sits entirely inside the footboard housing and the bed looks like an ordinary upholstered bed with a slightly deeper end. When it’s up, the screen rises clear of the frame and sits facing the headboard.

Cables run internally through the footboard and out to a single mains socket, so all you’ll see is one lead going to the wall.

A few practical points:

• Your TV mounts via a standard VESA plate, the same fitting used by wall brackets. Most modern televisions use one.
• Screen size and weight both matter. There’s a limit to what the mechanism carries, and it’s not just about how wide the screen is.
• You need clearance above the footboard for the screen to rise fully. Not usually an issue, but check if the bed sits under a sloping ceiling.
• The socket wants to be near the foot of the bed, not the head.

Sizes

Small double 4ft, double 4ft 6in, king 5ft and super king 6ft all work well. A TV bed double is the most popular size in flats and average-sized bedrooms, while king and super king suit larger rooms where the footboard has space to breathe.

All sizes are cut to standard UK mattress dimensions, so a British-made mattress will sit flush. Our mattress range is matched to these bases if you’d rather order the pair together.

One measurement people forget: allow enough floor space at the foot of the bed to walk past comfortably once the footboard is in place. A TV footboard is deeper than an ordinary one.

When a TV Bed Makes Sense

• You’re redoing the master bedroom. This is the most common reason. It’s the piece that makes the room look designed rather than assembled.
• You watch television in bed and hate the setup. A TV on a chest of drawers at the wrong height, or a bracket angled down at your forehead.

Made in the UK

Both TV beds are built and upholstered in our own UK workshop. The frames are kiln-dried timber, which holds its shape rather than twisting — and on a bed carrying a lift mechanism and a television, frame stability isn’t a detail you want compromised. The upholstery goes on by hand, so the piping runs straight and the buttoning sits where the design intended.

Because we manufacture rather than import, we can also help properly if something needs attention years down the line. That’s harder to arrange when a bed has come in on a container from overseas.
