Corner Sofas | Handmade Sofas and Sofa Sets, Delivered Across the UK

Corner sofas earn their place in a British living room better than almost anything else. They seat more people in less floor area, they tuck neatly into the shape of a room rather than fighting it, and they give everyone a proper spot rather than the eternal argument over who gets the good end. There are four designs in our range — the Ashton, the LUXE U Shape, the Milan and the Verona — all upholstered and finished to the same standard as the beds we’ve been making for years.

JMH Beds is family-run. We’re happy to spend ten minutes on the phone talking through your room dimensions before you order, because a sofa that won’t fit through the door is nobody’s idea of a good afternoon.

Why a Corner Sofa Beats a Three-Piece Suite

  • More seats, less floor. A corner unit uses the wall space you already have rather than eating into the middle of the room.
  • No dead corners. The awkward gap where two walls meet becomes the most-used seat in the house.
  • Everyone gets a decent spot. No perching on a chair nobody wants.
  • It anchors the room. One large, well-proportioned piece looks more considered than three separate ones.
  • Better for lounging. The long side is where people actually end up on a Sunday.
  • Easier to arrange around a television. Sight lines work naturally rather than needing a compromise.

The Sofa Range

Ashton

The Ashton is the most restrained of the four — clean lines and a simple profile that suits a smaller living room or a space where you’d rather the sofa didn’t dominate.

[CONFIRM: seat configuration, dimensions and whether it’s available as a corner or a set — see note below.]

LUXE U Shape

The LUXE U Shape is the biggest seater in the range. A U-shaped configuration wraps around three sides, which makes it the natural choice for a large lounge, an open-plan room or a household that regularly has more people in it than chairs.

Worth knowing: a U-shape needs floor space on three sides rather than two, so it works best in a room where it can sit away from the walls or fill a wide bay.

Milan

The Milan sits in the middle of the range and is our steadiest seller. A comfortable, generously proportioned corner sofa that suits most average-sized British living rooms without swallowing them.

[CONFIRM: seat configuration and dimensions.]

Verona

The Verona is the most substantial of the standard corner designs, with deeper seating for anyone who treats the sofa as somewhere to properly stretch out rather than perch.

Left Hand or Right Hand Facing?

This is the single most common ordering mistake, and it’s easily avoided.

Stand in your room looking at where the sofa will go. If the long section runs off to your left, you want a left hand facing corner sofa. If it runs to your right, right hand facing. Some retailers describe it the other way round — sitting on the sofa rather than looking at it — which is exactly how people end up with a sofa that’s the wrong way round.

If you’re not certain, ring us and describe the room. We’d far rather sort it out beforehand than have you unwrap the wrong thing.

Measure Twice: Room and Access

A corner sofa is the trickiest piece of furniture to get into a house, so spend ten minutes with a tape measure before ordering.

In the room:

  • Measure the full length of both walls the sofa will sit against
  • Leave 45–60cm of walking space in front
  • Check where radiators, doors and sockets fall — a sofa across a radiator wastes the heat
  • Mark the footprint out on the floor with masking tape. It sounds fussy. It’s the best ten minutes you’ll spend.

Getting it in:

  • Measure the narrowest doorway, including the frame
  • Check the turn at the bottom and top of any stairs
  • Note any tight hallway corners
  • Flats and terraced houses are where problems usually arise

Our sofas arrive in sections rather than as one piece, which helps enormously with awkward access. If your hallway is genuinely tight, ring us with the measurements before you order and we’ll tell you honestly whether it’ll go in.

Fabrics and Care

Our sofas are upholstered in the same quality of fabric we use across our bed ranges, in shades that suit both modern and traditional rooms.

A few honest pointers from years of fielding this question:

  • Darker shades and textured weaves hide everyday marks far better than pale, flat fabrics
  • If you’ve got a dog or small children, go for a textured weave rather than a smooth finish — it disguises wear and takes a brush better
  • Keep it out of direct sunlight where you can. Sun fades upholstery over the years, and it fades unevenly
  • Plump the cushions weekly. Two minutes stops the filling settling into permanent hollows
  • Vacuum with the brush attachment rather than scrubbing at marks, and blot spills straight away rather than rubbing them in

When It’s Time for a New Sofa

  • The cushions have gone flat. Once the filling’s collapsed, no amount of plumping brings it back.
  • You can feel the frame. A sure sign the padding’s had it.
  • It creaks or leans. Frame joints working loose don’t recover.
  • You’re moving house. New room, different proportions — the old sofa often doesn’t suit the new space.
  • You’ve never had enough seats. If someone always ends up on the floor at Christmas, that’s your answer.
  • The room’s been redecorated around it. A tired sofa undoes a freshly done room faster than anything else.

Corner Sofas or Sofa Sets?

A corner sofa suits you if you want maximum seating from the floor space you’ve got, the room has a natural corner to work with, and you tend to lounge rather than sit upright.

Separate sofa sets suit you better if you move furniture around, you’ve got a room with several focal points, or you’d rather be able to split the seating between two spaces later on.

Ring us if you’re torn. We’ll ask about the room before we recommend anything.

Sofa FAQs

How do I know whether I need a left or right hand facing corner sofa?

Stand in the room facing where the sofa will go. If the long section runs to your left, you need left hand facing; if it runs to your right, right hand facing. Always check which convention a retailer uses, since some describe it from a seated position instead.

How much space do I need for a corner sofa?

Measure both walls the sofa will sit against and leave 45 to 60cm of walking space in front. Marking the footprint on the floor with masking tape before ordering is the most reliable way to judge whether it’ll suit the room.

Will a corner sofa fit through my door?

Our sofas arrive in sections rather than as one piece, which makes access far easier than with a fixed-frame sofa. Measure the narrowest doorway including the frame, plus any staircase turns, and ring us with the figures if it looks tight.

What’s the difference between a corner sofa and a U-shaped sofa?

A corner sofa turns once and sits against two walls. A U-shaped sofa turns twice and wraps around three sides, seating more people but needing considerably more floor space. Our LUXE U Shape is the U-shaped option in the range.

Which sofa fabric is best if I have children or pets?

Darker shades and textured weaves cope best. Texture disguises everyday wear far more effectively than a smooth, flat finish, and darker colours hide marks between cleans. Blot spills immediately rather than rubbing them in.

How do I stop the cushions going flat?

Plump them weekly and rotate them where the design allows, so the same seat isn’t taking all the use. Two minutes a week makes a noticeable difference to how long the filling holds its shape.

Can I pay monthly for a sofa?

Yes. You can spread the cost with 0% interest finance, or use Klarna, Clearpay or Snap Finance at checkout, alongside PayPal, Apple Pay and the usual cards.

Do you deliver sofas across the UK?

We deliver nationwide, from Cornwall to the Scottish Highlands, with everything wrapped and protected in transit. Lead times vary by design and fabric, and we confirm your timeframe when you order.

Is the sofa assembled on delivery?

It arrives in sections that connect together, with instructions included. Two people can put it together comfortably, and the sectional design is what makes tight hallways manageable.

What if something’s wrong when it arrives?

Ring us on +44 7534 269866. Every piece carries a 1-year warranty against manufacturing faults, and as a family business we’d far rather sort a problem out directly than have you chasing a call centre.
