Our divan beds are made the way they always should have been: a proper timber-framed base, drawers that glide rather than stick, and upholstery applied by hand in our own workshop. There are 26 designs in this collection, from the sleigh-scrolled Chesterfield to the tall-buttoned Knightsbridge, and every one is available from small single 2ft 6in right through to super king 6ft. If you’re after divan beds with drawers that will still be running smoothly in ten years’ time, you’re in the right place.
JMH Beds is a family business. We’re not shifting containers of flat-pack from a port somewhere — we build these ourselves, which is why we’re comfortable putting a warranty behind them.
The divan has been the backbone of the British bedroom for decades, and there’s a good reason it hasn’t been bettered:
Every base in this range is built with your choice of drawer layout. Smaller sizes generally take two drawers; doubles and above can carry four, split two per side. If your bedroom has a wardrobe or radiator tight against one wall, tell us which side you need free and we’ll set the bed up accordingly. It’s the sort of thing a workshop can do and a warehouse can’t.
The drawers themselves run on smooth runners with a solid base panel, not a flimsy card bottom that sags under a stack of jumpers.
The headboard does most of the work in a bedroom, so the range covers a fair spread of tastes:
Plush velvet, crushed velvet, chenille and linen-look weave, in shades from oyster and silver through to charcoal, navy and black. Velvet reads richer under warm lighting; the linen weave is the more forgiving choice if you’ve got children or a dog who fancies the bed as much as you do.
Small single 2ft 6in, single 3ft, small double 4ft, double 4ft 6in, king 5ft and super king 6ft — all cut to standard UK mattress dimensions, so any British-made mattress will sit properly.
This is the question we’re asked most. A four-drawer double gives you roughly the equivalent of a decent chest of drawers, tucked entirely out of sight. In practice, our customers use them for:
The real advantage of a divan bed with storage over a lift-up base is everyday access. You’re not heaving a mattress up to reach a pair of socks. Open the drawer, take what you need, shut it.
A few situations where customers tend to ring us:
Every base in this collection is made in our UK workshop. That’s not a marketing line — it changes what turns up at your door.
We use kiln-dried timber for the frames, which holds its shape far better than the green softwood found in budget imports. Upholstery goes on by hand, so the piping runs straight and the buttons sit where the design intended. And because we manufacture rather than resell, we can accommodate the odd request a particular drawer configuration, a headboard height that clears your window sill — without a six-week detour through a third party.
Selling directly also keeps prices honest. If you’ve been searching for cheap divan beds in the UK and worrying about what you’ll get for the money, the answer here is straightforward: you’re paying for the bed, not for the middlemen between the workshop and your bedroom.
Both store well, but they suit different rooms:
Choose a divan with drawers if you have low ceilings, you need daily access to what’s stored, or you’d rather not deal with a gas-strut mechanism at all.
Choose an ottoman if you’re storing bulky, seasonal items — suitcases, spare duvets, Christmas boxes and you’ve got the headroom to open the base fully.
Plenty of our customers put a drawer divan in the main bedroom and an ottoman in the spare. If you’re unsure which way to go, ring us and describe the room. We’ll give you a straight answer, even when it’s the cheaper bed.
Finance. Spread the cost with 0% finance, or use Klarna, Clearpay or Snap Finance at checkout. PayPal, Apple Pay and the usual cards are all accepted.
Delivery. We deliver nationwide, from Cornwall to the Scottish Highlands, with your bed wrapped and protected in transit.
Warranty. Every bed carries a 1-year warranty against manufacturing faults.
Access. Before you order, measure your narrowest doorway and the turn at the top of the stairs. Divan bases split in half, which helps enormously, but a quick call to us beforehand saves any awkwardness on the day.
Have a proper look through the collection — filter by size or price, compare headboards, and picture the fabric against your walls. Our divan beds are on offer at the moment, so it’s a sound time to order if you’ve been putting it off.
Not sure which model or size suits your room? Ring us on +44 7534 269866 or email info@jmhbeds.co.uk, Monday to Friday, 9am to 5pm. You’ll speak to someone who knows the beds because we make them. No hard sell, just honest advice.
Two or four, depending on the size. Small singles and singles usually take two; doubles, kings and super kings can take four.
Yes. Tell us at the point of order and we’ll build it to suit your room.
You can add one when selecting your options, and our mattresses are sized to fit these bases exactly.
Base, drawers, headboard and struts. Mattresses are chosen separately so you get the comfort level you want.
Allow around 60cm clear on any side with drawers, so they open fully.
The base arrives in two halves that clip together, with the headboard bolted on. It’s a straightforward job with two people.
Yes, though if airflow is a concern in a warm room, ask us about the slatted alternatives.
They are built and upholstered in our own workshop, not imported and relabelled.
Get in touch and we’ll do our best to help you match a colour before you commit.
Ring us. We’re a family business, and putting things right is far simpler when you’re dealing with the people who made the bed.
