An ottoman storage box is the most useful piece of furniture most homes don’t own. Lift the padded lid and there’s a proper storage compartment inside; close it and you’ve got somewhere to sit, somewhere to put your shoes on, or a soft-topped bench at the end of the bed. There are four in our range — the Dior, the Isabella, the Olympia and our plain Ottoman Box — all upholstered by hand in our UK workshop, in the same fabrics we use across our bed collections.
Three of them share their names with beds we make, which isn’t a coincidence. Order the matching box with your bed and the pair arrive in the same fabric and colour, finished the same way. JMH Beds is family-run, and that sort of thing is far easier when the same workshop makes both.
The Dior Ottoman Box has the clean vertical panelling of our Dior bed range, so it sits naturally alongside a Dior divan or Dior ottoman bed. It’s the most affordable in the range and our steadiest seller.
The Isabella Ottoman Box carries the softer shaping and neat piping of the Isabella beds. If you’ve an Isabella ottoman bed already, this is the piece that finishes the room off properly.
The Olympia Ottoman Box matches our Olympia TV bed — the same clean, straight-lined styling. It’s the one to choose if you want a bedroom where everything obviously belongs together.
Our plain Ottoman Box is the simplest of the four: no panelling, no detailing, just a well-made upholstered box with a lift-up lid. Because it’s so plain, it goes with almost anything, which makes it the safest choice if you’re buying for a room you haven’t finished decorating.
This is the bit worth spending a minute on, because it’s where a storage box either looks deliberate or looks like an afterthought.
Order the box in the same fabric and colour as your bed and the two read as a set. Put a plush velvet box in front of a linen-weave bed and it’ll look like it wandered in from another room, however nice each piece is on its own.
Our fabrics run across plush velvet, crushed velvet, chenille and a linen-look weave, in shades from oyster and silver through to steel grey, navy, charcoal and black. If you’re ordering a box separately from a bed you bought earlier, ring us with your original order details and we’ll match it.
The most popular spot by a distance. An ottoman storage bench at the end of the bed gives you somewhere to sit while you’re getting dressed, somewhere to keep the throw and spare pillows, and it visually finishes the bed off. Pairs particularly well with a drawer divan, since you get two kinds of storage without a wardrobe in sight.
Somewhere to sit and put shoes on, with the shoes themselves inside. If your hallway currently has a pile of trainers by the door, this fixes it.
Doubles as extra seating when people come round, and takes the throws, board games and remote controls the rest of the time. Sits well alongside our sofas.
Nappies, muslins and small clothes inside; somewhere to perch during a night feed on top. Later on it becomes the toy box. Pair it with a kids’ bed with storage and you’ve dealt with the worst of a child’s clutter.
A window seat you didn’t have to build, and the storage comes free.
Sit on the lid, don’t stand on it. These are built for sitting. Standing puts weight in one small area rather than spread across the frame.
Don’t overfill it. A lid that won’t close properly stops looking like furniture very quickly.
Keep it out of direct sun. Upholstery fades over the years, and it fades unevenly — one side of a box catching afternoon light will show it eventually.
Vacuum with the brush attachment rather than scrubbing, and blot spills straight away instead of rubbing them in.
Think about lid clearance if it’s going under a window sill or a radiator, so it opens fully.
All four boxes are built and upholstered in our own UK workshop, using the same kiln-dried timber frames and the same hand-applied upholstery as our beds. That’s why the piping runs straight and the panelling lines up — and it’s why we can match a box to a bed you ordered from us two years ago.
Because we manufacture rather than resell, we can also sort out anything that needs attention properly. Very few storage boxes on the market are made here, which is a reasonable part of why so many of them look tired within a year or two.
On offer now. All four boxes are currently reduced, from £120, and the sale runs across the full range.
Finance. Spread the cost with 0% finance, or use Klarna, Clearpay or Snap Finance at checkout. PayPal, Apple Pay and the usual cards all work.
Delivery. We deliver nationwide, from Cornwall to the Highlands, wrapped and protected in transit. If you’re ordering a box alongside a bed, we’ll bring the lot on the same delivery. Lead times are on our delivery information page.
Warranty. Every piece carries a 1-year warranty against manufacturing faults.
Have a look through all four, think about which room it’s really destined for, and check the fabric against whatever it’s going to sit beside. Our customer gallery shows our furniture in real homes across the country, which gives a better sense of proportion than a studio photograph does.
When you’re ready to order an ottoman storage box, it’s a couple of minutes at checkout with delivery anywhere in the UK. If you want one matched to a bed you’ve already got from us, or you’re not sure which fabric will suit the room, get in touch — ring +44 7534 269866 or email info@jmhbeds.co.uk, Monday to Friday, 9am to 5pm. We’ll check your original order and make sure the colours line up.
An ottoman storage box is an upholstered box with a padded, lift-up lid and a storage compartment inside. It works as seating or a footrest when closed and as hidden storage when opened, which makes it useful in rooms where there isn’t space for a separate cupboard or chest.
Yes, the padded lid is built for sitting, which is what separates an ottoman from an ordinary storage chest. Sit rather than stand on it, since standing concentrates weight in one small area rather than spreading it across the frame.
They’re the same sort of thing, described differently. “Bench” usually implies a longer, narrower shape intended for the foot of a bed or a hallway, while “box” suggests something more compact. Both store inside and seat on top.
At the foot of the bed is the most popular position, giving you seating, storage and a finished-looking bedroom. Hallways, living rooms, nurseries and window recesses all work well too, and the piece is easy to move between rooms as your needs change.
Yes. Our Dior, Isabella and Olympia boxes share their styling with beds of the same name, and all four can be ordered in the same fabrics and colours as our bed ranges. If you bought the bed from us previously, ring us with your order details and we’ll match it.
Plush velvet, crushed velvet, chenille and a linen-look weave, in shades from oyster and silver through to steel grey, navy, charcoal and black — the same range we use across our beds, so the two can be ordered as a set.
Spare bedding, throws and cushions, out-of-season coats, shoes, children’s toys and anything you use a few times a year. Softer, bulkier items suit it best, and it’s worth not overfilling so the lid closes properly.
Yes. All four are built and upholstered in our own UK workshop, using kiln-dried timber frames and hand-applied upholstery — the same construction as our beds.
They arrive ready to use, wrapped and protected in transit. Full details and lead times are on our delivery information page.
Yes, and it’s the simpler route. Ordering both together means everything arrives at once, in matching fabric, with no second delivery slot to arrange.
