A kids’ ottoman bed turns the empty space under the mattress into the biggest storage cupboard in the room. The base lifts on gas struts to reveal one full-length compartment underneath — room enough for outgrown clothes, spare bedding, boxed toys and everything else that won’t fit in a wardrobe. The Toddler Kids Bed and the Toddler Princess Kids Bed are the two we’re asked about most, because they do two jobs at once. Padded sides run along the bed to give your child a soft barrier at the edge, and the base still lifts for full storage underneath. The Princess version has a taller, softly shaped headboard, and it’s usually the one that gets picked at bedtime.
If you’re moving a child out of a cot and you need somewhere to put all the cot-era clutter at the same time, a toddler bed with storage is the tidiest answer to both problems.
The Lilly Kids Ottoman Bed is our most popular children’s design. A neat panelled headboard and a fully upholstered frame, with the lift-up base underneath. The shape is grown-up enough that it still suits a teenager, which is rather the point of buying properly once.
The Vienna Ottoman Kids Bed is the simplest and most affordable. A low, softly curved headboard that works well in a small room without dominating it, with the same storage capacity underneath.
All four come in plush velvet, crushed velvet, chenille and a linen-look weave, in colours from soft greys and blush through to navy and charcoal. Our honest steer: the linen weave and chenille cope best with sticky hands and take a damp cloth well.
This matters, so we’d rather be direct about it than bury it.
An ottoman base is designed for an adult to operate, not a child. The struts hold the base securely open and lower it under control, but children shouldn’t be lifting it, climbing into the compartment, or playing with it while it’s open. Keep them clear while you’re loading and unloading, and close it fully afterwards.
That’s the main reason we point parents towards beds with drawers when a child needs to reach their own things day to day. Use the ottoman base for what you pack away; use drawers for what they fetch themselves. Plenty of families run one of each in a shared room.
You’ll also need around 1.2 metres of clearance above the mattress for the base to open fully. Low ceilings and sloped attic walls are the two things that catch people out, so measure before you order.
Smaller loose items are easier to manage in a box rather than loose across the base. Our storage boxes sit inside neatly or at the foot of the bed.
Small single 2ft 6in and single 3ft cover most children’s bedrooms, with larger sizes available if you’ve got the floor space and want the bed to last into adulthood. A kids’ single bed with storage is the size we sell most, and it’s the one we’d recommend for a child over about four — they won’t outgrow it.

Every bed in this collection is built and upholstered in our own UK workshop. The frames are kiln-dried timber, which holds its shape instead of twisting — and a twisted frame is what makes a lifting base bind or sit crooked. We match strut strength to the size of the bed, so the mechanism is set up for the weight it’s actually carrying.
All our upholstered furniture is made to comply with UK fire safety regulations for domestic furniture. It’s a legal requirement here, and a good reason to think twice about very cheap children’s beds sold through overseas marketplaces.

A kids’ ottoman bed gives you roughly the footprint of the bed itself in storage — around a cubic metre on a single. That’s enough for two or three bags of outgrown clothes, spare duvets and bedding, boxed toys and seasonal items, all hidden completely from view once the base is closed.
An ottoman bed is safe when an adult operates it. A single 3ft suits most children from about four upwards and won’t be outgrown — a single bought at five is still comfortable at fifteen. Small single 2ft 6in works where the room is genuinely tight or two beds need to fit. Larger sizes are available if you’d rather buy once and be done.
